I have the 32 gallon tank in my truck. I saw a thread on here with guys saying if they fill up when the light comes on they are only getting 25-26 gallons to go in which means there is still 6-7 gallons in there. I have let mine run down to 0 miles remaining quite a few times and and I have never been able to get more than 29 gallons in it. I think it's safe to say that with the 32 gallon tank you can easily run it down to 0 miles left and not worry about it.

I usually fill up once it goes below 1/4 tank. One time though I was stuck in traffic and the DTE was at 0 and I was still a few miles to the gas station.

I typically fill up when the gauge is somewhere north of 1/4 tank, but on one particular occassion I was on a trip and I was down to a reading of 40 miles left, before i found a station. Not sure I would like to go much further than that.

since I track fuel economy, I tend to try to empty the tank .. lol

I get 515 - 550 miles per tank

the lowest I have gone was DTE 0 and fuel gauge Below "E"
and I filled it with 26.7 gallons (26 gal tank)
I drove 578.7 for an avg. 21.7 mpg (US)...

I always run it to the fuel light comes on. Few times ran it well beyond when it hit E.

My mileage is pretty consistent with mainly city driving I go by Distance driven as I don't have DTE and yes the light comes on and I get close to E then I go get gas and pay $122 to fill it up again.

WOW! Shawn, I thought we had high gas prices, I have a 26 gallon tank, and can fill it up for around $98 to $100 with 93 octane. Is that fill up you mentioned 87 octane?

I was towing a 28' boat from Toronto to Maine in a blizzard. As we got near Albany, I let my friend drive, told him to look for a gas station once it got below 1/4 tank. Was awakened by the low fuel ding. Looked on gps for gas stations going towards western Ma, it was 8 more miles to a gas station than DTE said, ouch. Being paranoid, I had him pull over, we looked aboard the boat and found 2.5 gallons of 2 stroke gas for the kicker OB. Of course, no funnel, we had to roll up a magazine to use as a funnel.

my 1999 ram 1500 has a 26 gallon tank

when on the hiway I fill it up when it's around 1/4 tank

on the hiway I average around 16.50 mpg. so it isn't too bad.

it is a common belief that running consistently low on fuel may well lead to an early death of the fuel pump as they are cooled by the fuel surrounding the pump

I have seen some fuel pump assemblies that are designed to keep a 'well' of fuel around the pump but not all of them are like that

besides risking a long walk it is likely not a good idea to run your fuel down low

pumps are as much as a 1000 bucks and can be a bugger to change

in some cases it is easier to lift the entire box off to make the change, you don't want that . . . .
