I'm still stuck in the "3,000 miles, change it" mindset.

Of course the dealer does it for me every time... for free

It is a synthetic oil, even regular conv. oil runs to 5,000 miles with no problems and still has usable service life. I am not one that is still stuck on the 3,000 mile changes, but I do believe that you should get under your car and check everything out every so often, and 5,000 miles is an easy number to remember changes and gives you the opportunity to poke around under your truck in reasonable time frames to check everything out.

Chrysler recommends changing the oil every 6K or more if the vehicle is operated under severe conditions and they do not state if this number is for dino oil or synthetic. Personally, use M1 and change it every 5K and rotate the tires at the same time so I don't have to keep track of different intervals. My truck has 80k on it and when I had the timing chain cover off a few months ago, the inside of the engine was clean as a whistle.

it is synthetic so i figured i could get more miles out of it!!
Would help cut the cost of oil changes every 3,000 which would be nice since Mobile 1 and filter isn't cheap

Lately many auto parts retailers are offering deals on synthetic oil and filter packages. I've been catching 5 qts. of M1 and a filter on sale for as little as $27. Keep an eye out for mailers and newspaper ads, they've saved me a bundle on my oil changes.

I just changed it with standard oil and haven't even driven it 10 miles. I'll probably change it again before I start driving the truck regularly and put some Amsoil in it. I'll be running at least 5000 mile intervals with that stuff.
