Default Chrysler Service Contract

Ok, ladies and gents...

Got a notice in the mail today from Dodge, as we all do, that my truck factory warranty is almost up. I am just under 24,000 on the clock, and the end of March next year will make 2 years ownership. I purchased an extended warranty through the dealership when I bought my truck, which covers me for an additional 5yrs./50,000 miles and this is already built into my payments, deductible is $50, and now Dodge is offering me Chrysler's Service Contract.

I did not get a chance to give them a call today, so figured I would put it to y'all first. Here is my question, and I ask because this warranty stuff is new to me, didn't have my last new car beyond the factory warranty, so any extended coverage was never an issue, and I am sure the benefits would outweigh the cost of major repairs and I like the security of knowing I am covered no matter what the problem. I have AAA and pretty much any roadside assistance program known to man already, can't have too much coverage, haha.

So, would it be a good idea to purchase this in addition to the extended warranty coverage I already have? I know a couple folks on here have this service contract, but does anyone know if I can opt out of the extended warranty I already have and substitute this one or can they just overlap? Has anyone had any warranty work done with this service contract and, if so, what was your experience?

Any input/suggestions are encouraged and greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've never bought an extended warranty since I do all my own repairs, but as with any contract you'll need to read every word of the fine print and ask questions. Make sure of what is covered and what is not. Remember that these documents are written by lawyers who are trained in the art of fine print...

I'd check to see what is covered by your 5yr/50K miles warranty and compare that to the Chrysler Service warranty offering.

I have an extended 7yr/100K miles extended warranty from Chrysler on my 300 SRT8 that I purchased from Chrysler Contracts. It covers just about anything and everything with a small deductible.

Remember, the term of the warranty goes back to Day One/Mile One when you purchased the vehicle, not 5 yrs/50K miles after the basic manufacturer's warranty expires.

So read up on what is covered under your current warranty purchased at the dealer, compare/contrast that with what Chrysler Service Contracts offers. See if there are any gaps.

I don't think you can cancel the warranty you have and get a refund for the unpaid balance, can you? If so, and the coverage under the warranty you have is less than what you can get from Chrysler Service Contracts, I'd see about doing that.

OBTW, the best price I found on an extended warranty for the Chrysler was at Chrysler Service Contracts. And they offer up to 36 month payment plans.

Am I right to assume the extended warranty you purchased when you bought your truck isn't a Chrysler warranty?

That's a good question. Most extended warranties are honored by Chrysler Jeep Dodge but sometimes your money goes to a third party that simply is the claims administrator.

The problem with non-Chrysler warranties is that they don't cover as much and tend to use junkyard or inferior parts for repairs. I've installed 3 salvaged motors this year, and witnessed a few transmissions and transfer cases being put in vehicles covered by aftermarket warranties.

Yup. That is true. I've never purchased other than what the manufacturer offered on their vehicles. I'm a bit leery of cheap fixes.

You'd run screaming from an aftermarket warranty if you'd seen some of the repairs I have. They do a good job of making them sound good on tv, but in reality they suck.

LOL...well, I've never had the pleasure and I don't plan on it.

In fact, I get to collect on my extended warranty...my High Speed cooling fan on the SRT8 stopped working yesterday.

Cool. Some aftermarket warranties wouldn't cover that repair.
