Default Problems starting

I have a 2004 dodge ram regular cab short bed 4X4 hemi. The last two morinings I have gone out to start my truck and nothing. I have lights radio but will not start or even atemp to fire over. I noticed that the Park reverse and drive indicator was not light up. So I messed around with the gear shifter pull ed it out of park which you can do right now with out puting foot on the brake pedal. I put it in drive and park a bunch of time about 5 minutes later it started. They it started fine the rest of the day. The yester day the same thing but could not get it to start again. This time had to wait till later in the day and started fine. Then went out thin morining and started fine. It has got cold here the last couble of days. I think it might be the park neutral switch. Any help would be great.. Thanks

First I'd check to make sure your battery has a good charge.

Next, I'd check the positive and negative connections at the battery.

Then check the positive connection at the starter, auxiliary post (if you have one) and the negative ground connection.

Sounds like you have a main power connection short to ground.

Welcome to the forum!

Go back to your User CP and Edit your details to add the info on your truck and location. That way you won't have to type that info over and over again and it will help us help you.

If there were a short to ground in any of the related starting circuits, a fuse should have blown. I'd check and make sure all the fuses are seated in the PDC. The next tiem it doesn't crank, grab a test light and some help and check for voltage on the solenoid wire at the starter. From there you need to start working back to the relay and so forth.

Wait you said you can pull your drive selector out of park without depressing the brake pedal?

yea thats what i was thinking i almost went outside to check. but i wanted to be sure thats what he ment. if you can do that there is definately a problem with your shift selector. And i may be getting out of my boundaries of knowledge on this one but it would seem that there may be a problem where your pcm is getting a signal saying that your transmision is not in park thus making it imposible to start and since you have no illuminated drive selector it makes me even more convinced that it could be an issue. I would do what MAD said and if you have the know how do what remerson said but i would take the chance to venture out and say it might be a more uncomon isue like what i think it is

Thats along the lines of my thinking. Im not a mechanic but you shouldnt be able to that. Wrong info going to the pcm.

I had a trans rebuilt from a local shop and had a similar problem with the indicator . But I also had another issue with the trans . Turned out an internal electrical problem . I do remember the internal problem was the shift solenoids . I can't remember what the problem was with the indicator . It was something the trans shop did . Have you recently have trans work done ?

Thanks for all the replys. Still not sure what it is. ran great for a couple day then right out of no where it did it again. I checked battery it checked out ok. clean and checked battery terminals. Im thinking it might be a ignition switch? Just so confused why the PRND12 is not light up when It wont start.
