Default Aftermarket exhaust or Chip?

I recently bought a 02' Ram 1500 5.9L (gas) and i'm looking to give it some more hp. Everything was stock when I got it. So far I have put on a cold air intake and 180 stat.

I'm not sure what to do next. I was thinking either new exhaust or a chip. Eventually I'll do both.

My question is which one should I do first and what brands?

For exhaust I was thinking either flowmaster or borla. I'm leaning towards the borla but its pricey and i'm not sure if its worth the cost.

For performance chips I have read that superchips are good. I've looked online and haven't been able to find one for my 02 with the 5.9L gas engines.

I'd appreciate any recommendations.

I do not think either one will give you much HP as it takes about 15-20% increase of HP to notice anything by the seat of your pants, depending on the weight of the vehicle. Once you start adding several mods, that is when you will notice the changes.

I vote for exhaust just for the sound aspects of it I think magnaflow sounds better than borla and flowmaster, although sound is subjective.

I too vote for exhaust because for you to be able to take full advantage of of a programmer, you need more air in AND more air out.

The Superchips model for your truck is # 3865.

Just like the guys here said exhaust first. I would probably save up and then get the superchips tuner and some roller rockers at the same time.

I would do the exhaust first. I run a borla dual rear on my '07 and love the sound, and though yours doesn't have it, I like how Borla engineered it to take MDS into account, unlike magnaflow which is just a highflow muffler. In all the research i did, Borla just did more R&D on their systems and their mufflers are top notch with phenomenal flow and little resistance.

I got a programmer before CAI or headers. Did have new exhaust from CAT on back. I notice performance increase only on the performance tune with 91 octane. Fuel economy improved a little, but not enough to justify the cost of the gas. Do the exhaust first, then get the programmer.

I would go with the programmer first. Best bang for your buck IMO.
