Default Chrysler buy back in 2003?

Well, I have always been a huge fan of Dodge and I have a question that I cannot find the answer to anywhere on the internet. I'm looking at a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9L gas engine/Quad Cab. I called the dealer and asked a lot of questions about the truck before I trek 2 hours into the Chicago 'burbs. I asked about a Car Fax and he said it was a buy back by Chrysler and that automatically set off the alarms. He explained to me it was a buy back due to the 5.7 Hemi coming out that year. The individuals that bought the 5.9L wanted the Hemi halfway through the year and threw a big fit about not being told about the bigger and better Hemi that was going to be offered...so Chrysler bought back the 5.9L and the customers got their Hemi (not a complete fair trade, obviously, due to what the Hemi retails at). I have been doing a ton of research tonight about this 'buy back trade for a Hemi' and I cannot find anything. Hoping someone here knows anything about this? When I hear "buy back" I think of Lemon vehicles or repos. Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of any such thing and I work for a dealership. The only buybacks I have ever seen were vehicles that couldn't be diagnosed and repaired.

That's what I was thinking too. I'm going to get the VIN tomorrow and check on this.

I actually put something up in your other thread. I worked with a guy that did a 'buy back' on his '03 to get the HEMI so it's not unheard of (he also bought a new truck every 2 years... too much $$). There weren't that many that did it from what he was telling me.

I wonder if it was an actual buy back by Chrysler or the dealer.

So, the dealer just wasn't blowing smoke then...interesting. I'll have to do more research tomorrow on the truck. I really like it, I just don't want to make a horrible move and end up with a huge paper weight.

With as much trouble getting Dodge to buy back my friends Caliber because they couldn't fix the brakes, I doubt Chrysler would buy back a truck so the owner could get a hemi. why not trade it off. The dealer may have bought it back, Chrysler? I don't buy it.

I wish I could find the info if Dodge ever bought the trucks back? I could see the dealer more than the actual Chrysler company.
