Default Predator ?

Well I get paid tuesday, and I was torn between the BFI intake, or the diablosport predator. I've found the predator for $100 less than the intake, so I think I'll do that first. I've read in the manual the truck is not to be run on premium fuel, and 89 is recommended. My question is, if I buy the programmer, and install the 91 octane tune, will it fix the pinging issue with 91? Or would it be more benificial to just run 89 and the 89 octane tune? Also, I planned to change my sparkplugs at the same time, as I just bought the truck, and don't know the last time they were changed. Any recommendation on plugs?

Try the 89 tune first. If it still pings, you can swap tunes and use 91.

How many miles on your truck? You may not need to change out the plugs unless you suspect one is bad or something.

in total stock form, yes, 89 is preferred...but with any programmer, you should use 91 octane or better (whether they say it or not)..I've been runnin premium in my truck (05 hemi qc) which seems like forever (174,279 miles on her now), I don't trust it with any less octane..

pinging? use higher octane gas NOW. Where are you located, if in a mild climate area (or hot), change your thermostat to a 180 degree tstat. Change your plugs to NGK 5306's and tell us the color and condition of the plugs you pull out.

not sure what pinging issue you're talking about, but you shouldn't have any pinging with the stock tune, especially if you're using 91 octane gas.

The predator comes with 2 tunes- one is for 87 octane, one is for 93 octane. I'd start with the 87 octane tune either way, do some data logging to watch for knocking, and adjust the tune if necessary. I had to adjust the 87 tune a little to get rid of a little knocking when I got mine- wasn't a big deal, just something to watch for.

If you don't have 93 octane gas in your area, I wouldn't use the 93 octane tune at all. It will almost certainly cause knocking. If you really want to use 91 octane with the 93 tune, I believe there are some recommendations on the DiabloSport forums on how to adjust the tune- just depends on how much you want to mess with it.

The DiabloSport Predator U7137, for the 5.7L HEMI Ram, has a 91 octane canned tune. So if you can get 91 or 92, this is the perfect tune for you.

At least for the 2009 Rams, it certainly does not. I'll take a picture of mine in the morning if you like.

Regardless, I'd still strongly recommend data logging as I mentionned before, no matter what tune you install and what gas you use.

Interesting. They list 2009 and it takes you to the U7137 tool as the application. But then, at the top of the page, it lists "2003 - 2008".

A call to them seems appropriate.

No need to show me a pic of yours, Dan. I've only played with the U7135 tool but don't know why they wouldn't offer a 91 tune for 2007 Hemi Rams...that just seems weird...

Yeah, the website says that there is a 91 tune. I think I read somewhere on their forum why there isn't one, at least for the 09- can't remember what the reasoning was or exactly where they posted it. I know that not having a 91 tune for the 09 wasn't a mistake though, and it hasn't bothered me any since premium around where I am is all 93 octane. Maybe they'll release one in the future.

Well seems I've misworded something. I don't have a pinging now, the manual states to use 87 or lower octane, as 91-93 will cause a pinging. The question then relates to whether or not that info in the manual applies when the predator is added, or if its safe to run the 91. Sorry for the confusion fella's, regardless some good info here!
