That's what I'm wondering. How far is this gonna get dragged under the bus, with those EMTs being dragged under there too.

Tom's right in that they should have still checked because how many times have you seen in the news someone got shot in the head and survived? There was a police officer here in Florida that survived and is up, walking, and talking. He was lucky though.

98sst, ofcourse when it's obviously no way, and I don't want to get gross here...then yeah we don't have to check.

If the guy was still alive and did have a chance and the family wants to sue, then I guess the family has a point. But now all that everyone is going to see, is the video of 3 firefighters or paramedics who walked up to someone who was alive and they just walked away without checking. Not very smart.

Yeah, I hate how automatically the assumptions are created. "The cop was brutally beating the innocent man" and things of the such. I just wish they would clarify the whole story before leaking it around.

I really dn't understand what the media is implying? If it is a obvious death, we do not nessisarily check for a pulse. With that said it has to be VERY obvious.

In this instance the Patient may have been missing a large part of his head ( sorry I don't mean to be gory), Did anyone notice the police were on scene too before Fire/EMS walked in. They did not look to be too excited about the situation, which would lead me to think......very little could be done.

BTW, before we are even allowed into a scene, police have to clear it. Meaning that they come in, make sure the perp. is gone and the scene is secure. This is totally blown out of proportion, and I seriously doubt anything will come of it unless the Dept. tries to make a policy to appease the taxpayer who doesn't understand the situation.

If that is the case, Fire/EMS will be asked to verify death on every victim.......ones that have been dead for days and are oozing out of their beds, Ones that are cut in half, ones that are missing heads.

(Once again, sorry for the frankness of this convo)

Totally see your point, fireman. That's some good info.

Damn media...we got the same problem here, too.

Down here the police do call us out to confirm death and to break down the door if someone doesn't answer and a family member is worried. The dispatch comes in as a "obvious death" and also "life status questionable." But like fireman said....if its obvious like a person cut in half, shutgun to the head, decomposition...then no they don't call us and ofcourse there's no need to check.

Looks to me like the media is trying to get the public upset at the fact that they did not check for signs of life though. There was no mention of any reason to think otherwise.

Kinda like a career mechanic looking at a engine with a connecting rod pushed out of the side of the block.....and then turning it over to see if it will run. You sure can do it, but you really don't need to.

I would agree that it's the media making this more than it should be. They have not said anything about the method of deather other than it happened during an armed robbery... which leads me to believe there was a few bullets flying around and he caught one in a not happy place. Might be pretty obvious if he's missing half a head, y'know.

Hey there...

Well id like to say that im proud to know many hard working volunteer and full time Firefighters and medical staff. I have close friends in both fields of service and my current girlfriend is actually a Registered Nurse.

But the way I see it in the tape these paramedics showed up and did half their job. Not only that, the way they portrayed themselves at the scene made it look like they didnt even care to be there. You might as well had bystanders on the street mosey in half hearted, take a look over the counter, go hmm and walk out chatting with there friends.

If I did half my job everytime I went out.... I sure wouldnt have a pay cheque coming to me at the end of 2 weeks.

In my opinion very unprofessional.

Again I have close friends in service so im not here to fight or offend just stating my opninion on this exact event.

Thanks.
