Personally, if you just bought it...I would check the wear and tear items such as, brake pads, rotors(and drums if equipped), calipers, wheel bearings, tie rods, Shocks(struts if equipped), axles, tires...Check under the hood for oil, coolant, PS steering fluid, Brake fluid, any leaks coming from the block or anything for that matter...Make sure all hoses and lines are in good shape(not dry rotted, or cracked), check the belt(s), check electrical compnents like the battery, the alternator for any corrosion, check wiring to major components like the brake lights, headlights, signals, dash, etc...Check the headers for leaks, the exhaust piping down to the muffler for leaks...I would check things like that before I start hooking it up personally...But that has good potential to be a bad truck....I would then take care of that rust, get it sanded down and primed for a new paint job(I would do a Gloss Black color), and then throw on a nice set of rims and tires, clean up the exterior lighting, clean up those side view mirrors, I would chrome out the front and rear bumpers, and the exterior symbols (i.e. DODGE on the front), maybe a new exhaust system, get a nice spray in bed liner...And then hood up the interior a little with new fabric for the seats(or custom seat covers"seat skin" fit very tight)...Well, thats what I have for ya, hope this puts you in some type of direction...

Sounds about right to me. Make it run good and reliable, then worry about the looks. Even the nicest looking truck is useless if it's broken down.

Check it over as CHILLZ says. You can make it purty later!

Replace all the wear parts (hoses, belts, brake pads, etc...) unless you've just done that, of course.

Give the suspension a good inspection. Look for obviously worn out parts (tie rods, shocks, ball joints) and replace as necessary.

Do a compression check on the engine. Hopefully it's good and you can move on.

How long have you had the truck?

Would be a good idea if you know someone with a lift so you can get a real good look at the under side . Easier to check suspension , mounts , fluids , (frame , floors , brake lines etc,,, for rot)

Beautiful little ram you got there I've been looking for something around that with 4x4 that I can jack up and put some tires on and take it to the spring off-road radical course by my house. I'm tired of taking my baby every time I do something else happens

I have got to agree with all. Check it out real good, find out what it needs to be safe, run good and be able to enjoy it. Cosmetics can be done anytime. Hate to see you spend $$$$$$$$$ to find out the frames no good or its going to cost a fortune just to get it on the road. Besides.........going with the pics it dosent look all that bad to me , especially for its age.
