Angry Snow! But Codes

Hi all,

I am back with a New Issue with my 09.......

As you see the pic i had to tow a trailer too... but i was going though the snow what was about 7 inches or so.... and everything was going good till i have to though deep snow and started to spin and then just like that i had a Code come on!!!!

Great!!! I had a 300 mile trip to do!!!

ESP/BAS- Light came on and will not go off! - when this light comes on this it what happen:

2wd: when in snow and starts to spin the Motor will go down to 400rpm and the motor will start to miss till you leave up on the gas pedal.

4wd Lock: when in snow and it starts to spin the ESP/BAS Light will start to flash, then the ABS Pump will make a bad sound, I know that the ABS pump is what makes the TCS work. but it is twice as loud before the light came on! and the truck does not go very well in the snow with that light on!

Before the Light came on the TCS did work in 4wd and the ABS did to Trust me I know!!!!! - but one thing about the ABS in 4wd is that if you hit the brakes and you can not stop for about 5 sec the ABS will kick off and the tires will lock up!

So, i am not very sold on this 09 so far!.... i am having a nice word with my dealer about this!

It should have gone off. Have you cycled the ignition back to off, then back to on?

It didn't like spinning at all.

especially if it was after going through deep snow, it's possible that there is snow stuck up around the wheels, maybe blocking some of the sensors. Might want to check that and clear out any snow that's in or around your wheels.

It's also possible that one of the sensors or something could've gotten knocked loose or something. 7" of snow is pretty close to our ground clearance (7.7" at curb weight). This is prolly more of something for the dealer to look for though.

With my '09, I put it into 4WD Low (which turns the ESP off) for going through the deeper snow. That and taking it real slow seemed to work pretty well- seems like 4wd low will pull through just about anything.

Hope you can get the issue fixed quickly and without too much hassle

I would guess its snow still stuck places it shouldnt be.... last week I went about 35 through a foot of snow for 500 or so feet in 4wd lock, and other than the occasional snow over the windshield, the truck worked fine.

I agree that its probably snow bunging up a sensor or something.

In the past, I have had sensor issues with 2 of my GMC trucks immediately after driving through heavy snow. It always seemed to me as though the sensors just do not know what to make of snow packed into somewhere that it doesn't belong.

In my opinion, all these sensors and high-tech features are great but they can also be a pain. There is often nothing physically wrong with the vehicle, but a sensor malfunction throws up warning lights and makes you worry. In the "god old days" without so much high-tech stuff on the trucks you would barrel through that snow and think nothing of it.
