Angry This last 5 days is sucking.....

Well this week keeps just getting better! My alternator decided to quit today, freaking fantastic. It's like the damn components are taken turns now to generate maximum annoyance and slow me down! GOD! Does anyone know the best brand of alternator? I can't freaking interpret the chaos that is the mopar parts site so I saying "screw OEM if it's going to be this much of a B**** to get the part"!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that man, I searched Mopar Online Parts and it came up with 4 options for a 2003 1500. I assume that's one for each engine option, but I'm not sure which is for the 5.9. I also searched for a 2002, which came up with 3 options because it takes the Hemi out of the equation. It looks like its only $50 with a core exchange though, and Mopar Online Parts is a supporting vendor, so I'm sure if you PM them or post here in their subsection: http://www.ramforumz.com/forumdisplay.php?f=133 They can hook you up with exactly what you need.

Good luck

Thanks for that, I'll see if they can set me up with something. I wish the truck would just remain calm for 2 months.....just so I can concentrate on non-maintenance related (thanks dad for not ever doing anything other than appearance and oil) things instead of having my OCD set off by the little things that keep going wrong. Thanks again man, i'll see if they can tell my dealer to give me a good price lol!

I'd get the part # off and call Napa and O'Reilly's. I've had good luck with both.

See if there's an upgrade available, the 136a was standard on the 5.7, but there was a 160a optional. When my alt bearing started singing I picked up a 160a (bolt-in) to replace it.

Well turns out that 136 amps is the largest non-custom alternator I can get. I ordered one from a dealer in Pennsylvania, should be here by friday.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't go with a custom one, given that you're doing so much custom work to the rest of the truck. It probably would have been cost and time prohibitive though. Good to hear you got it sorted out though!
