Default Radiator fin protection

i need some advice i'm hoping someone has an idea how i can prevent debris, like hay, bees, & butterflies, from getting in between the fins on my 2009 Dodge Ram, on my last pilot vehicle i was easily able to access the front of the radiator & hang a open mesh window screen in front of the radiator & not in front of the grill. ( on older Dodge trucks, the grill is part of the hood & gives great access, for mounting & cleaning ) I drive in all sorts of terrain, mostly the desert roads & I have to continually either blow out the debris from the radiator , or just wash off the screen anyone have ideas??

This is a great idea that you have. I think I'm going to work on this for my truck. I was thinking of getting some of this type of mosquito/bug netting that's on the sliding glass doors. Maybe making some kind of frame to hold it in place right behind the grill.

I don't think this will obstruct too much air flow will it? And it's great for keeping bugs off the radiator.

Tom's Blue Ram or Remerson 228 will probabley know more about this than I do, but there is a brush you can get that will clean debris out from between the fins and even straighten out the bent ones. I have seen mechanics use them on my Peterbilt but I'm not sure what they are called or where to get them.

I like the idea of the screen . Hopefully you can come up with a setup thats easy to install and clean . I would definitely be real careful if you use a pressure washer on the radiator fins . Yes they bend over very easy . There is a tool "condensor comb" , I believe thats what it's called . I use a small flat blade screwdriver sometimes . Works well just a little time consuming . I use a pressure washer at work for cleaning the cores on my heavy equipment . But those fins are quite ridgid and hard to bend over . You may want to consider using a condensor cleaning agent . You spray it on with a squirt bottle , let it sit , then hose it off . Works great . Let me know how you make out . Tom

What year/model is your Pete? They build kick-ass trucks. 379s are the shiz. I used to like Kenworth until the ugly ass T2000 came out.

Now wouldn't that mosquito screen catch on fire with the heat coming from the engine?

I think the screen is a great idea. You have alot of room in the front of these rams to be able to work. I thought i seen a brush at our local Napa . I will try and check it out. It was in the auto maint/cleaning section.
