I've seen the black aluminium screen used to great effect on a couple of trucks. And when it startes getting holes in it, just cut new stuff and go with it. It's probably the best/cheapest way to protect your rad from debris.

Default radiator bug screen

i went into a hardware store & happened to see a display of fireplace screens, the mesh was open when compared to window or door screen, so the radiator should still get enough air flow, yet its small enough to stop most bugs & debris
now i just have to locate a source for the mesh

I have had the same problem on Fords but have not tried to fix problem on my Ram yet. On my Fords I went to a local hardware store and got a piece of stainless window screen material, cut it a little larger than the radiator screen, slid it in where it needed to be in front of the radiator and fixed it on with electrical ties. I had one on a 2002 Ford for 6 years with no problems. It was easy to get the debris off with a light pressure washer and didn't bend the radiator fins.

i found the mesh that i will be using, its actually expanded metal, some of the off roaders use it on their off road race trucks, i will be using drywall corner bead, or something similar as a frame & then use either rivets or wire ties to hold it together & wire ties to hold it in place on the truck

i finally have the expanded metal mesh, the smallest available, & the drywall corner bead was spot welded to it as a frame, it ain't pretty, but, it will be functional, its now in the powder coating shop & i'll be posting pix. i was going to go with orange powder coating, but, the shop runs silver quite often, so i'm going with that. i know that i could have just done it in spray paint, But, what the hell ...

Thanks for the link! I could use one of those for my home a/c unit. I tried to clean it with a spray cleaner for a/c radiators from home depot and when we I went to wash off the spray, I bent the fins.

Good find.
