I have the electronic range select on my '08 Ram 3500 Cummins. I never had a problem with it at all. Back when I used to work for GM they had a lot of problems with their electronic range select. They had an additional "Auto" feature where you just leave it on Auto and it'll switch to 4HI automatically if it detects wheel spin at any of the four wheels. That was mainly problematic when matched with the THM-4LXX-E transmissions. I never heard of any Dodge owners having problems with theirs.
It just feels odd having a lever on the bottom instead of the bottom on the dash, considering my truck's an '03. I love the way the lever lurches a bit when I stomp on the gas though.
