Odd you feel that way about Pennzoil motor oil. Oil analysis reports indicate that Pennzoil YB and Pennzoil Platinum not only have some of the lowest engine wear. But on engines with over 100k mile on them had hardly any varnish deposits.

All I can say is that I've never torn down a QS engine that wasn't sludged. The worst one I can recall was in a 2000 Ram with a 5.9 that had the oil changed with QS every 3000 miles. We know this because the customer showed us receipts from the quick lube place where it was done. When the intake came off, we found no less than 3/8" of sludge in the lifter valley and the returns nearly closed off.

I have no doubt in what you observed but todays SM synthetic motor oils can take a lot of abuse. Pennzoil platinum motor oil constantly have excellent oil analysis results with 5000 to 7000 mile oil changes.

I change mine every 5k with M1 synthetic. I had the front cover off my engine a couple months ago and it was clean as a whistle. If it's good enough to come in a Viper, it's good enough for my truck.

Mobil 1 motor oil is a fine oil but as of 2010 it will no longer be use as a factory fill where synthetic motor oil is used. Mopar motor oil is no longer Mobil 5000 motor oil.

Its been discontinued in all SRT models. 5W40 is the new recommended motor oil. I can not find any reference for the 2010 Viper motor oil requirements so I will accept your word for it.

Except the SRT-10. They have the 8.4 at the Chrysler school I went to that covered the Viper engine. I'm assuming that with such low prodcution numbers they will keep using it.

In support of Penzoil---I respect all you guy's opinions but I have a 2000 intrepid with the 2.7 (supposed to be the king of sludge makers)---I change oil every 4000 miles and filter, and all it's ever had in it was penzoil 10w30w---It now has 140,000 miles on it and I haven,t had any problems with the motor at all.
