Default Service 4wd light on new 2010 Sport

Picked up a new 2010 Sport with the 5 position transfer case tried shifting into 4 Auto and the service 4wd light came on, pulled over shut it off, started up tried it again and it worked, and for several more times it worked. I let the truck sit over night same thing the next day, any ideas?

I'm far from a pro, but in my personal experience, most of these warning light issues are simply sensors acting up or malfunctioning.

In the "good old days" when trucks came without all these sensors you would only be aware of trouble if there actually WAS a problem. If you are hearing a funny noise or feeling something, then there might be a real issue. Otherwise, I bet its some kind of sensor being overly "helpful". I had a sensor issue with my 2010 sport. Mechanically, my truck was perfect, but the "check engine" light was on and required some kind of sensor replacement.

I know thats not a very technical explanation, but hey, Im not a very technical guy!

I agree with Greg .... more than likely a sensor issue. We engineers tend to apply them like cheese on pizza ... you can never have too many !

Could also be an actuator issue. Let the dealer fix it.

It's wierd, now that you said that. On friday I had a new 2009 ram with a Service 4WD light on. Ended up being the final drive control module. It had a trouble code for an internal fault. I replaced it under warranty.

Mine turned out to be the the drive train control module, it was replaced this past Tuesday and its worked every time hot or cold since, where as before it would never go in on the first attempt when it was cold but usually did when it was warmed up.

I wonder if this will be a common problem.

I have the same problem with my 2010 Laramie. I have an appt this Friday and will post the resolution. Hopefully it is just a sensor.
