Angry 7 Hours To Travel 20 Miles????

So yesterday afternoon it started snowing here in Portland. Snow is not a common occurrence every year but we have had some good storms here.

This was not a huge storm, we only got 3" or so of the white stuff but man...what a mess.

All the main routes were jammed up like you wouldn't believe. So were the alternate routes. Folks were not prepared. A lot of vehicles were left right where the owner's decided to leave them if they could no longer move. All access to my neck of the woods from downtown Portland requires going over some hills with some pretty steep grades, even on the main freeway routes.

Me and the Ram had no problem at all...except for the blockages.

By the way, that's an average of 2.875 miles per hour...

So, it took me 7 hours to get home...boring!!!

Well, I don't want to repeat the experience, either! I just wish folks would pay attention and be prepared. It's Winter, dammit! LOL

I am still learning the ropes but I have tools in Blue and a down sleeping bag to be prepared. This weather isn't worth not being unprepared!

Good for you! Add some energy bars, some bottled water, a candle and matches or lighter to your kit if you haven't got them yet.

Maddog I feel your pain, took me 2 1/2 hrs to get from downtown over to Washington square last night. I even hung out at my shop to let traffic lighten up. Could have got home a bit quicker but they closed West Burnside as I was headed up to it. That meant fun times on 26. Laughed my butt off at all the unprepared idiots spinning out and leaving their cars on the side of the road looked like a graveyard. I love 4WD

A lot of people don't realize that just because they have 4wd and have good traction under acceleration, doesn't mean the same for slowing down! So frusturating, I wish people would see that.

Here's a few local pics that were posted on a local news channel site.

My regular commute route:

The entrance ramp I normally would use. I never got a chance to get even close to this spot. Traffic was backed up a good 4 miles from here when I left the office:

A little bit West of the ramp another mess:

Thought this was cool...a great perspective of some snowed in Xmas lights:

One of the guys over at the 300Z site suggested I put a snowmobile in the back of the truck just in case...LOL
