Default Dodge 1500 Transmission problems

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 4x4 Quad cab and the automatic trany starts in 3rd gear.
I was told it's a pressure censer or another plug up inside the trany fluid pan.
I tried changing the filter and fluid but nothin!! Any ideas?
Thanx a bunch,
Woody

Get your trans scanned for trouble codes . Sounds like your stuck in limp home mode . Could be something as simple as a sensor needing to be replaced .

Default 2001 Ram 1500 Trany problems.

Thank you for the reply so quickly!
I had it scanned before at Auto Zone and they couldn't read it.
I was told to change the censer plug and some other plug (Just to make sure o I wouldn't have to take it apart again.) and that would fix it. What are the names of the 2 plugs in the trany?

AutoZone isn't known for diagnostic prowess. You need to pull the codes from the TCM and go from there. Still need some more info on your truck. Year, engine and trans if known.

(TRM-r1az) Does that mean anything? That was on the door sticker I could'nt find any Numbers or anything on the trany but there's a sticker that says-(New process Gear 12820 & P52118156 AE322185)
The year is 2001. Engine is a 5.2 w/AC

I heard the 2001 tranys bit the big one. I haven't had any other problems with it. It's solid! Just wonna fix the trany before I totally loose it! I've had it since new and haven't had to do much to it except regular Ware and tare maintenance repairs.

You've likely got the 42RE. You need to pull the trouble codes from the TCM and see what's going on.

Holy crap. If I had to replace a tranny twice I think I'd just trade it in for something better. I've never had a tranny problem in my '03 Ram 1500, and I ride that b***h like a bull.

I thought the 42RE was discontinued in '99, I never knew they still had them around in '01. But what the hell do I know, I'm a GM guy.
