Default Poor economy!!

I have a 2009 RAM Hemi. When I got the truck, I was quite pleased with my fuel mileage. I averaged around 15-17 city and 18-20 mpgs highway. If I set the cruise at 65-68 mph I would reel in 20mpg almost with out fail. Now these numbers have dropped off considerably. I struggle to get 13 in the city and lucky to creep above 15-16mpg on the highway. I have replaced the stock air filter with a K&N and I do have different tires on the truck but holy crap!!!! I do have a lead foot but I make certain to keep the horses at bay as much as possible. Besides, my driving style has not changed from my previous numbers if anything its gotten more conservative. Has anyone had this problem? Its not just my trip computer playing games with me either, I have tallied my results based on miles vs gallons used. I am curious if there is a TSB or a computer update for this issue. Please help?? --RAM2009

Try reading through the TSB section but off the top of my head I can't think of any recent TSBs that have been posted about that. But you did say that you have a lead foot so that's a big one right there.

What kind of tires did you get?

Tire are the Bridgestone Dueller Revos. I also did not notice any improvement from installing the K&N. If anything it got worse. I put the K&N in to try and help my slipping MPG's. I have 18,000 miles on right now and it should be broken in and getting better mileage, not worse. I did say I have a lead foot but in order to curb my losses, I have been driving like my grandma on the way to church with no improvement.

Did you change wheel size?
Did you get bigger tires?

When I had mine i got some huge arse tires on my 20 inch wheels.
I had 305 55 20 and still managed 17 mpg mixed driving.

I really didn't want this to be my first post on this forum but here goes. Who buys a 390 hp 1/2 ton pick up truck for the fuel economy? I noticed that my mileage has dropped off with the winter formulation on the gas. I am hoping that in the spring I will get some back. During the summer I was getting 16-18 around town and 20-22 on the highway. Now it's 13-14 in town and 16-18 on the highway. That said I still love the rush I get when I push the accelerator, gas mileage is secondary to the sound and power of the Hemi.

Those guys bring up a valid point, if you're somewhere that requires winter gas, it really kills your mileage (-MPG);If you switched to a wider/taller tire then you're increasing the turning weight and it needs more to get going (-MPG); switching to a drop in K&N will allow it to get more air but it decreases the velocity without a CAI that's designed to maintain velocity (-MPG); and the big one is the heavy acceleration and highway speeds over 70MPH, this doesn't allow the MDS to kick in (----MPG).

Now to boost mileage, the biggest is softer accelerations and using cruise below 70 MPH, lets the MDS do it's thing (+++MPG); install a CAI and freeflowing muffler (+MPG); keep tires inflated to rated pressure (doesn't increase, but doesn't lose MPGs).

And to stonewhite, drop by the newbie scetion to get the official welcome.

Very good tips. Since we are talking about "winter formulations" of fuel, now I'm wondering if when they put out that fuel, does it go to the whole US? I've noticed my mpg's have dropped also since it the temperature started getting colder. But that wouldn't make much sense because I'm in Miami.
