Took my truck to firestone today because of a noise(clicking) while the truck was starting to take off. I also had some leaking my power streering. The replaced the rack and pinion changed some hoses etc. After the discount they charged me $810. They said the clicking was gone. I went to the parking lot to drive off and the same clicking was still there. Man WTF?! So I go back there and one of the tech checked out the back and said your rear u joints have play and has to be replaced.

What is a consumer to do. I decided to skip my dodge dealership because they did not repair the problem just left me with a 1200 bill but the problem still persisted. I am no mechanic but the tech said it was the rear ones.

Might as well get them both done' Parts will vary depending on the quality and location, but the labor should be around 1.5 hours times their rate.

Sounds like you had some hacks working on your truck. A loose u-joint isn't hard to find.

Probably didnt unless you had some sloppy steering or a major leak. I'd raise hell over that. If that doesn't work there's always the Better Business Bureau.

Unfortunately if this is the case. They are quick to take your money. That's the problem nowadays. I tried calling the manager to get the rack and pinion assembly. He was making up some excuse that they needed to send it off to the supplier for core re-imbursement. I think they are just trying to cover their a$$es. I will definitely take this to the BBB.

He's right about that part. There is a core charge on the rack and what they installed is most likely a reman unit. If it hasn't been but a day or two, the parts store may still have it.
