I know I am from Texas but I still can't find the 'F' in Dodge or Ram!

Cummins already has a Engine designed and ready to be installed into the Ram 1500. This engine has already passed the Emissions testing and would cost Dodge and Cummins no more money to install in the 1500's.... Fiat has no small 4.0 to 6.0 l Diesels at this time that could come close to passing emissions. That would cost them allot of coin to get passed. The Cummins will stay with the 2500 on up Dodges because of owner loyality, dependability, and longevity with the brand. Ram would kill the Heavy Duty line if it lost the Cummins Engine. Right now people are flocking to the Cummins because of all the issues the 6.4l PowerJoke has had. GM may be losing the D-Max in the near future because of low sell volume in the last 2 years....why?????? CUMMINS!!! There better be a 5.0l Cummins in a Ram 1500 Soon or FORD will take the market share with there new 4 liter diesel that will be in the F150 next year!

The current plan for the HD trucks is to keep the 6.7L, so there doesn't seem to be anything to worry about right now. The 1500 diesel is anybodys guess.

I have been hearing the story of Dodge losing the Cummins since the I was in highschool. that was almost 13 years ago. When I first started hearing it, the story was Cummins was a subsidiary company of Ford and they were replacing the Power Stroke with Cummins. It has changed over the years but my take it Dodge and Cummins are match that won't go away anytime soon.

That's the exact same rumor that I heard years ago as well.

I've been reading for at least 4-5 yrs about a 1/2 ton Ram diesel. The engine(s) (actually) two were developed and tested a couple years ago. The V6 and V8 diesels performed well in the tests but when the financial hardships took hold of Ma Mopar, the 1/2 diesel was shelved. Personally, I believe that it will be revived at some point, probably around 2012 if Chrysler begins making a profit again. They're going to need the fuel mileage gains that the diesel will provide them and there has been wide-spread interest by the public in such an offering. As far as Cummins vs Fiat diesel is concerned, I'm positive that the HD trucks will continue to use the Cummins. Dodge folks are VERY aware of the great reputation they've gotten for their use of this industrial-grade medium duty engine. In the eventual 1/2 ton use, it's probably a toss-up between the Cummins (V6 or V8) and a Fiat diesel. My guess is they'll offer a Cummins because it's already been developed and tested for application in the 1/2 ton Ram and a Durango with excellent results. A Fiat diesel though, may well be added to the option list as a way to "test" the waters for future Fiat diesel uses. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though, as Fiat builds great diesel engines. They just haven't developed the reputation that Cummins has in this country because they're not available on anything that I know of except Case IH and New Holland tractors (which Fiat owns).
