I feel your pain, too, albeit not for having had surgery, but rather just getting cabin fever from the winter and the weather, I'm not built for the brutal cold we have to be sharing with Canada right now, haha, but I work inside, and it's either been too cold/raining or both lately to be outside much on days off, so I am reeeeeeeeallllllly going to be tired of looking at the t.v. and all of these walls come spring and summer!!! Really wish you the best on a speedy recovery so ya' can get back out again, but feel free to keep, and keep us, entertained on here!

I feel your pain too. I have been off since Dec 2nd having carpal tunnel surger and I go back to light duty the 11th. There should be some posts to keep you busy, like googling pictures for counting to a million?, should be able to get that one done.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the support guys! I volunteered for the surgery but just didn't anticipate so much sitting around afterwords. I'll go ahead and throw out that I had Gastric Bypass. No biggie (and no pun intended) but some folks are ashamed to admit they did it. I'm not happy about letting the world know that I couldn't work it off but I honestly tried, going through every "system" diet on the market, bought all the trendy diet books and did the old standby starvation diet on a regular basis.

For years I said that anyone who couldn't loose weight was just too lazy to work at it and after meeting so many obese people through the classes and meetings my insurance company required me to attend before the surgery I still believe 40% to 50% are in that category. But there are honestly some who, no matter what they do, just can't beat it. When I reached my mid 40's it was like hitting a wall and I slowly crept up north of 300. Finally, really saw myself in the mirror one day for what I was - a very fat 57 year old man - and that did it for me.

My goal out of this thing, besides the obvious health benefits, is to be back at my Army weight in time for Gatty 2010, and I really believe it's doable. I'm 6'-2" now (used to be an honest 6'-3". shrank with age) and with my build I can carry 210-220 without looking overweight any. And when I get there ladies look out - I can back up my talk with action then! (Well that's if my wife let's me....)

Heck, since I've bared my soul this much I might as well start a new thread posting my daily loss for the next couple of weeks then later just the weekly loss. While I'm doing that I'll use you all for a support group. Sounds like a plan.

Again, THANKS SO VERY MUCH for all of your support. I've been saying to all who will listen how friendly this forum is and you guys have proven me correct.

Wow, man, that is an inspiring story, thanks for sharing! We all have our daily struggles, and I, too, have found that, sure, we all love our trucks, but it isn't always all about the truck (someone else said that, so I can't take credit, but it's true). Sometimes it's about making and really having friends, people to talk to and share experiences from life with, people who really do care. Couple that with the great people we have on here, and it's a win-win situation!

My aunt just had that done a few months back. Granted I never really thought she was that heavy, but I haven't seen her in 21 years, either, and from what my dad tells me and what conversations I have had with her, she is a very sedentary person, lives alone and doesn't get out much due to some other health problems. However, she seems to be doing well and is happy with her decision.

Like you, I believe there are some who honestly just don't try and there are others who have tried everything, but to no avail. I say more power to you! Best of luck for a safe and speedy recovery, and definitely, start that thread and keep us posted on how you are doing!!!

* Edit: Will get ya' the rep when I can, gotta spread some love first!

Nothing to be ashamed of pardad! One of my liquor reps had that done over a year and a half ago, before I moved out here. He was over 300 lbs, diabetic, all kinds of problems. His work insurance paid for the surgery because in the end, it would have been cheaper than to pay for all the meds he had to take. He has now lost over half his size! One thing he swears by is a protein powder called Unjury (http://www.unjury.com/). He uses this in place of meals and has been using it since after his surgery. Something to think about, it may help you as well to get back to where you are comfortable and happy with yourself.

Anywho....we will be right here cheering you along!! You got us to help you though and be your support system!

If she loves you she will support you in your decision to increase the morale and general well being of the female of the species by not denying them the over whelming desire to bed you!!! You will be doing a great service to women around the globe....providing you travel...LOL....

Let me know howit works out for you....my ex didn't seem to appreciate it...
