Default Really? 26 gallon tank?

I find it hard to believe that there is 26 gallons available in the gas tank. As low as I have had the tank down to about 1/16th and even then it was 21 gallons. You mean to tell me that at 1/8th a tank you have 5 gallons to spare?

You can figure about 1/2-1 gallon being unuseable. Most likely the gauge is a little off which isn't uncommon. Fuel gauges aren't designed to be super accurate so they vary from vehicle to vehicle. Some Chrysler vehicles are even designed where the fuel gauge drops to E when you start to get below 1/4 of a tank. Part of the reason is so you don't run out of fuel and part is so you don't completely uncover the fuel pump and overheat it.

like stated the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank also. but id rather be on "E" and have three or four gallons left than the opposite. look at motorcycles , they have a reserve on them.

My 02 Ram is that way, if I fill up when the light comes on it takes 18-19 gallons max.

I typically get about 20 gallons max at about 1/8th. I guess that is safer than 17 at half a tank.

yeah, mine will hold 27 gallons. These trucks are 26 gallons in the tank, and roughly a gallon in the lines. But...believe...I ran it out right as I pulled up to the pump once

I now right where on the gauge, to add some fuel...lol
