Well, I finally changed it. What a pia. How do you guys thats changed an 09 keep from getting it all over the place taking off the filter. I made a big mess. I've changed the oil & filter many times on different vehicles, but never made a mess like that.

I run all Napa Gold filters in all my cars and have for many years.. They are made by Wix and are the best filters period.. IMO of course!

Not sure about the M1,,,

From what I've read, you need a filter with: Thread Inside Diameter: M22 x 1.5 special (M6)

LOTS of controversy and mis-information on MFG's websites and application catalogs about which filter the 09's take,,,

(For instance, The PH2 listed as a 'fit' for an 09 on the Autozone site does not have the special pitch threads.)

Wix 57899 and Pure One PL24651 both indicate on their websites a "M22 X 1.5 'special' or 'M6' " thread,,, I believe K + N 2010 does as well.

One way to check to see if the filter you plan on getting will fit your 09,,,, If the same filter is listed as fitting pre-2009 models, it won't have the required 'special' thread pitch

Well, I hope it's the right one because I put it on last night. It went on easy (no binding). I haven't driven it or looked under it since though.

Did you change because you thought napa gold was better, or did you have problems with the mobil 1? I ask because of this post

I did some more checking, and the info is still 'all over the map' on this subject.

I did find a Charger forum that indicated the M1-201 fits the 'new' Hemi's,,,

Mobils website says -201 applications include 08-10 5.7 Rams,,,

Chances are, if it went on like it should have, I'd say it's 'good to go'.

OK, I did a little more research,,,,

Gotta eat some crow,,,

(For instance, The PH2 listed as a 'fit' for an 09 on the Autozone site does not have the special pitch threads.)

The 'old' hemi filter was a PH-16, the 'new' hemi filter IS the PH-2,,,

My mind evidently tried to convince me that anything associated with the 'antique' PH-2 could NOT be new!!!! (Confusion exists, and it looks like I'm confused as well!!! )

The 'old' mopar hemi filter is the 090, the 'new' is the 899,,,

I had a chance to look at both the PH-2 / PH-16 and 090 / 899 in person today,,, the 'old' filters have a smaller threaded inlet than the 'new' versions.

Per the Wix website,,, An 07 Hemi takes part # 51085. Thread Size: 3/4-16

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...&TempYear=2007

An 09 Hemi takes a # 57899 Thread Size: 22X1.5 MM 6-H

http://www.wixfilters.com/filterlook...&TempYear=2009

3/4" = .75" .75 " = 19.05 mm

http://www.metric-conversions.org/le...illimeters.htm

The 'old' filters with their ~19~ mm threads are a bit small for a motor designed to accept 22mm threads,,, I don't think you could get the 'old' filters to even come close to threading up 'correctly' on a 'new' motor,,,

But, some folks can be pretty persistent!!!

I haven't had the opportunity to change the oil on a '09 or 10 yet . I'm sure theres a trick or two that can be done . Once I do one I'll let you guys know . Maybe even post some pics .

I ran into this issue when I changed my oil last week. I went to Walmart and I just figured (without consulting the filter catalog) that the M090 Mopar filter would fit my 09 hemi as it did my 07 Charger R/T. Wrong. There is no way anyone could get the M090 on a new Hemi truck. The inlet diameter is not even close. So I crawled out from under my truck dog cussing myself for not checking the catalogue and went back to Walmart. I even had to take jokes from my wife about buying the wrong filter. It was Sunday and the local dealers are closed so I did not have the option to purchase a Mopar filter that fit. I ended up reading the catalog and found that the Fram PH-2 & XG2 filters fit. Sure enough the XG2 did fit. I will switch to the correct Mopar filter at the next change. Moral of the story is always read the manual, don't assume.
