So when you apply to get hired, do you ask for fire or ems and that's what you get if they have the opening? Or is it where ever they need you? Can you switch? Or once your ems, you're stuck?

Some days I love the ems runs and others I don't because of all the nonsense. But every once in a while we get a good fire. And since we are both, even if I'm on the rescue truck, we go to the fire because we carry all our gear, tools, and even hose packs on the ambulance.

its to different tests but if you are ems you can take a promotional test to switch to fire a lot of guys go to ems first because its easier to get hired then they try and switch

I do critical care transport for a Pediatric/Neonatal hospital based team-- 70% ambulance, 20% rotor wing, 10% fixed wing. Although we are hospital based, we work through the county ambulance system. We run with an RN, respiratory therapist or paramedic(depending on the call), and an EMT. All of you first responders should check this out:

OMG that was the greatest video of all time. It is like they had a video in the room during one of my calls last week. BRILLIANT!

Oh my god, that's so great. For some reason I never thought that people were the same all over the country. But I can now see that there's people like this where this guy is from also.

That was pretty funny but it was a realistic adaption of some of the citizens we deal with all the time.

The 2 EMS departments that I run with are volunteer and are not affiliated with the fire departments. Most of the Departments in northern WV are volunteer. Whether it is fire or EMS.
