Default What exhaust system gives you the best increase in MPG?

Hey, I'm just looking for anyones opinion in what system would give me better fuel mileage increase. My truck is an '05 Ram 1500 Quad Cab with the 6' 6" and the HEMI, I drive about 280 miles each weekend, visiting my gf. I am also a storm chaser and drive from Manitoba down to Oklahoma and NW Texas. Oh and it needs to have a nice rumble to it too haha

Sell it for a hybrid... lol

For real, check out magnaflow mufflers, they are usually the highest quality with great results..

I'm not sure about how our HEMI's react to backpressure,,,

If they are anything like motorcycles, (HA!) reduced exhaust backpressure can reduce your torque, but may increase your WOT HP.

With that being said, when it comes to just a muffler swap on an 'all stock' truck, I'm not sure that you will notice any MPG increase, especially if you 'like to make it talk!' (Heh heh!)

Regardless of any possible MPG loss or gain, I do like the sound of the Magnaflows,,,

Haha a hybrid won't outrun a tornado better than the Hemi...I do plan on air intake upgrades and probably a programmer...but yea I've heard good things about Magnaflow exhaust

I don't think there's anything I'd say would be the BEST to boost MPGs with exhaust. The big thing is getting a higher flow without sacrificing torque. So long as you have a high flow muffler with the sound you like then you'll get an improvement. There are some muffler types that will improve flow velocities more than others, but the price goes up pretty quick with these kits. So kits like Corsa and borla have better flow over magnaflow, however they are almost twice the price.

And remember, you want a mandarel bent kit ONLY.

Any freer flowing exhaust, coupled with a cold air intake, will improve engine efficiency. But the change will NOT be significant.

Mileage has more to do with how you drive, how quickly you step away from a stop, how consistent you are with your speed when traveling long distances, etc...

I like Magnaflow mufflers a lot. Love the sound on the HEMI. It's deep, throaty but not obnoxious. A bit of a drone around 2200 rpm or so (it varies between vehicles) but the bang for the buck is pretty good.

I have a single in/dual out Magnaflow muffler with a Volant cold air intake on my truck. It works pretty well.

Thanks for the help...I know I'm quick off a stop and on long distance travel Im usually going 110 km/h...but the weird thing is I got the truck in December and it was near its oil change, so up until last Monday I had been averaging 14-15 mpg and I took it in to the dealership I bought it from and after they did the oil change I am only averaging 12-13 mpg. So I'm calling the dealership because my interior has started smelling like crude oil and the little idiot didn't even go over the truck because two days later my power steering went because he didn't add anything to it.

hhmmm...I'd look into changing the oil (and other fluids) to synthetics (I use Amsoil)...I feel I gained some when I did oil and differential...

I have a lead foot so I make it a habit to check my fluids once aweek (oil, coolant, tranny, power steering)...
