Question TBI to Carb Conversion

I have a 1997 Ram 1500 5.9L, I am thinking about modding it from TBI to Carb. I have looked at an Eldebrock 7577 intake, Performer Carb and fuel pressure reg. Can any one tell me what all this conversion will entail? Like known problems ECM programming and other technical advice. Thanks

Well, it is a 4x4 and mostly used for hunting. I was thinking by doing the mod and removing the cat converters that i would get more horse power. Not used to newer vehicles, grew up working on 70 and 80 model trucks. Any suggestions would be great though.

I say go for it, the amount of things you can tinker with yourself once it gets installed are amazing, no computer mumbojumbo... especially since it is a hunting rig,

getting to that part would be the issue. i'm not expert but i would assume you would need the computer out of an carburated ram which leads to probably you ultimatly buying an older ram.

Im assuming you need to get a fuel pump off of an old one as well along with stripping all of the wiring. To be honest, I think it would be pretty cool to do. I just read that this is a common conversion on 5.0 foxbody mustangs.

EVERYTHING on these things is run by the computer now days. Your heater, your gauge cluster, your transmission, bla bla bla. SO many components 'talk' to one another, you start losing signals from disconnecting things, and you start buying aspirin by the case!

Buy an old truck on the cheap! There's your carb and no headaches.
