I have one be sure not to overtighten the bolt on the tailgate. I thought that allen key was too flimsy not tight enough, so I used a good on like I did to take of those torx screws, used a torx bit on an impact gun comes right out. Oh ya it only took a few drops and the screw on the bottom broke, they sent me a whole new kit. It's been on a year now.

CdnoilRAM,
I'm in Canada too and am trying to find a place that ships.
Can I ask you where you got yours?
Is it a Dee Zee?
I've also seen Stabilus brand.

I ordered mine through Stylintrucks.com. You can also get them through local truck/speed shops if their supplier carries them, if they don't order one online, it's normally cheaper rather than running through two mark-ups.

I hate that my first post is negative, well sort of. I just installed mine (from Stylintrucks) and the quality is not the same as what you see online, as the tailgate does not 'float' down. I called Dee Zee and asked and the customer service lady said that the company that supplies the 'shock' changed the quality and they are aware of it, just not sure what to do. My only option is to return it if I'm not happy. Told her I'm keeping it as although it's not as good as I expected, it's not bad either. Just an FYI.

How much of a difference, vs. the video in this tread, is yours? I am trying to decide between this or the Hopkins system.

Very nice post. Pics were really good.
I was wondering if anyone has tried to modify one of the available kits for an older truck. Mine is a '98 and they don't make a kit for it. I can't think of a single mod that I'd like to have more.

I'd say the newer system works about 70% of what's shown on the instructional video. Also at full extension the tailgate does 'drop' slightly. No damage can be done, but it definitely does not float like on the video. Think of it as having a weaker shock than before. Also, although I'm not too familiar with the Hopkins system, it looks like it would not prevent the 'drop' at the end, just assists in the lift/close, which still requires the user to manually do. The Dee Zee will actually let you let you open the tailgate and release it, the shock does the rest. Also the Hopkins requires drilling holes, which I didn't want to do.

Greg,
I just watched a video of the Hopkins system, and I would definitely go with the Dee Zee setup, even with the weaker shock. I would think the only reason to go with Hopkins is if someone has difficulty lifting the tailgate to the closed position.
