its well worth spending about $80 for a battery charger, especially if you have cars, trucks, motorcycles, snow mobiles, quads & neighbors in need
i personally have 2 of the 2/10/50 amp chargers & 1 portable jump start unit from

Sounds like you need to bring your battery to a full charge. Jumping it and the GPS plugged in will just drop the battery down again.

Wouldn't ia GPS have to go a long time to pull a car battery down to 6V? Anyways, always good to have a battery charger around. I've had to put new batteries on the charger before to wake them up if they've been sitting on the shelf a while. First thing would be to have that battery load tested to make sure it will hold the charge. If the battery is bad, nothing else will work. BTW, did you look at the cells when you added the water? Had one die on me, water in one cell was black. Knew right away needed a new battery.

That depends on how much amperage it's drawing and the state of the battery when it was first plugged in.

It will charge enough for surface charging, but not enough to bring it back to a full state

You really should set it up for an overnite trickle charge (2-5 amps) to put a good charge back on the battery.
