Default Very uncomfortable driver seat 07'

Hi everyone, I have an 07' crew cab 1 ton diesel. It has cloth seats. I love almost everything about the truck. The only problem I have had is the driver seat is very uncomfortable for me. I am a big person, at 6'6" and around 300 lbs, but I can feel metal rails or something pushing through the padding on either side of the seat. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, did you do anything about it? I would be interested in buying an aftermarket seat if I could find one that worked. I saw another guy on a different site that had the same problem, and he took the driver seat out, and somehow added padding into it with some success. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Levi

Well you might want to check out an automobile upholstery shop. Maybe they could change the padding for something better or just add more. That might just be cheaper than a whole seat replacement. And I doubt that buying another seat will have more padding than the original.

Have you fiddled with the lumbar support by chance and still had no comfort? It's crucial you have it not just for your liking, but it will begin to cause problems to your back.

My parents find their '08 1 ton's seats stiff, they got a couple of sheep skins and they said it really softened them up.

I had that problem on another rig. I took it down to the upholstery shop, they pulled the cover, added some foam on both sides of the lower bolsters and all was well.

I'd try that first before going to an aftermarket seat.

Damn man. Yeah, the seats on both my trucks don't offer enough support. I'd recommend going with an aftermarket seat cushion. Just don't go with that beaded stuff 'cause that's for chicks!

Join the club. I have only had 1 vehicle I really liked the seats in. well 3 vehicles, but they were all Jeep Grand Wagoneers. Couldn't beat them. Most of the time I have no complaints about the seats in my Ram, but on long trips, my legs will fall asleep because the front of the seat is higher than I like.

Ya any good upholstery shop can take your seat apart and add better materials in there to make it softer or stiffer or however you would want it.

Thanks for the info. I will probably find a good upholstery shop in Seattle, or something. The other issue I am dealing with that most of you won't be able to relate to, is that I am so tall, (6'7") that my right knee is about half an inch from hitting the shift lever while in drive. The truck has decent leg room, but the way they designed the AT shift lever is not good for people with long legs. I wish it came straight out, instead of bending down, then out. If I added much padding, I imagine it would cause my knee to hit the lever. Ideally, I would have the driver seat moved back a few inches. Has anyone ever done this, or had it done? What type of shop would do something like that? It would be nice to have padding added, and the seat moved back in one shot. I have messed with the lumbar support. I've tried all the settings. It just seems to be the seat cushion. Thanks again for the info.
