We have also been hit with an Orthodontic bill and because of my husbands rank, we pay more of our share than just about any other rank within the majority of military structure. And we dread any further Orthodontic proceedures our daughter may need as her braces have maxed out her LIFETIME allocations! Very discouraging.

Here in Georgia, if you are on welfare or ANY form of government assistance, you now get a free cell phone! Yet, we pay and fight for freedom?! I certainly hope this administration either reverses it role as an enabler or that our country wakes up and demands better.
I certainly don't mean to dispute your claims, but are you certain that your husband was not having premiums deducted from his pay all along? You stated that he has served for 16+ years (he has my respect and admiration). The Dependent Dental Care Program was established by Congress in 1986, and participation was then and still is voluntary. Prior to this, (I enlisted in June 1980, and was married on New Year's Day 1981) I had no provisions for dependent dental care. I paid for my wife's care straight out of pocket. The original DDP paid little, but it was better than nothing. Over the years, it has gotten better, but still needs improvement. For example, both of my sons received molar sealants, although DDP paid nothing for them. Now, molar sealants are covered.

I had heard about free cell phones for those receiving government assistance, and if I were a resident of GA, I would be seething mad. It's bad enough they are taking money from the government that belongs to taxpayers, but to give them a cellphone? Ridiculous.

I just saw the Safelink Wireless posting. I have heard of that, although I never really put two and two together. Yep, that's misuse of government funds in my opinion!

I will look into his previous les' but I was relatively confident we weren't. It wasn't until we came back from Germany (01') that it was deducted from his pay. Sealants cost us anywhere from 5-8.50 a piece (stateside).
Now in Germany I know we have no deductions for dental because it is free while you are in Germany.

But if I am wrong, I have no problem being corrected and redirecting my ignorant beliefs on some innocent bystander! j/k....thank you for guiding me right, RJ!

Hate to break it to you, but I have money deducted from my base pay every month for my familys coverage. I (Active duty service member) of course am covered with out the deduction. I have been in for 18 years so trust me, I pay for them.

Are you referring to TRICARE? If you are paying a premium as an active duty, reserve or guard service member for your family members, you are being ripped off. TRICARE premiums do not kick in until you are a retiree, up to age 65. The annual enrollment fee is $230 for the individual, and $460 for a family. Take a look at this site for premium and copay information:

Let's try to get back on track.....................Countries get the Government or President they deserve! Not because of those that vote, but those(thousands/millions?) that are too apathetic to drag their sorry asses down to the polling booth for 5 of their precious minutes.
I hear all the time.."What has he done for me?" He is [B]supposed[/B to be "doing it" for the Country, not individuals.
Governments and Presidents are only in power for one thing.....Themselves!

I don't want to get into the Health Care debate(but I guess I am),but if the Doctors and Drug companies stopped milking the Insurance Companies for all they're worth, we would have a far better Health system.
I wonder how many Politicians took campaign money from the Drug companies? Quite a few, I bet!

Fair point, however, from the other side, if insurance companies would simply cover what they are supposed to, rather than come up with unique legal angles to deny their policy holders coverage and leave doctors without payment for services rendered, then Doctors wouldn't be tempted to milk the insurance companies. Remember, I'm just playing devil's advocate here.

These reasons are why I believe that the country's health care and insurance programs are broken and need substantial overhaul. The sooner we get past the partisan rhetoric and stop "back door deals" and closed door sessions, the sooner we could address the real cause of why good folks can't afford to get their health needs attended to.

This is very true. In some cases people aren't able to vote based on where they live and where they work. In my case for example (canadian elections btw) I work in the oil and gas industry and was stuck up in a place called Zama City... basically it's the ass end of the snow covered hell's playground. I was working for so long before the elections I wasn't able to apply for the 'out of town ballot' (I can't remember it's proper term) and by the time I was home, it was 5 days past the election. I wasn't allowed to get a mail-in ballot cuz I was in a hotel and they won't send them there, and since I wasn't at home I was screwed out of my vote.

I know I'm a rare case, and most people are apathetic about voting, but some of that is that there's nobody who really stands out and makes them want to vote. It's seriously only 2 parties... of which most people hate both. SO where's the incentive?

Change, the only thing that ever really stays the same.....I didn't vote for Obama Bin Laden, either, we'll just see in 2012 if he's asking the question, are we better off now than we were 4 years ago?

I love the fact this historically liberal Mass. Senate seat went Republican, and I'd like to think this is a wake up call, hello Dems., you don't have it "in the bag," you actually have to EARN the votes.....

Hadn't heard about this one yet, probably glad I didn't, because for those on welfare and not working, the use of their phone should be limited to looking for a JOB! For those on medicaid or with disabilities or seniors who live alone, I'm all for it!

That's a good point, too, Cd, though there are plenty of folks here who would rather just sit around and complain. Gotta agree with ya' though, we're really out of options for viable candidates and the question still gets asked regularly on the news talk circuit, what would it take to establish a third party here, now that has my support, but if you CAN vote and DON'T, then you lose your right to complain IMO. Sucks you couldn't get an absentee ballot (that's what they're called here) and lost your chance to vote.

As for healthcare.....has anyone thought about the very real possibility that there are already cures for most of the diseases that plague us today, but that between pharmaceutical companies, who make too much money off of people being sick, and doctors who earn their living treating such "ailments" what are insurance companies to do?

It is my firm belief that there is not enough competition between insurers in this free market society, and anyone, regardless of the nature of their business, once they realize they have a monopoly so to speak on a product or service, THEY get to determine the price paid for it. This was the only part of the "public option" that made any sense to me, if nothing else can be done to bring up the level of competition and hopefully bring premium costs down, then the government option would be available. This was NOT designed, at least not originally, to be a national healthcare plan. I do agree that we have to reign in the cost of healthcare itself, and we also need fewer "specialists" and more primary care providers.....

BTW, funny pics chithead!!!

im not sure where it is stated in the bill but i do know its in there. i just dont see why all this "CHANGE" has to go more towards screwin just as many, if not more, than is helps? do people need healthcare? yes, should i have to pay for it? nope, thats why i got a job with benefits. i know not everyone has that oppurtunity, but thats not my fault. in my book what it all boils down to is that this whole concept is about as stupid as the welfare system. are there people that need welfare and deserve it? yes, but what about the the man and woman with six kids that have never had a job? do i think they deserve it? hell no, in my opinion if the person is able to work then they should be. granted it may not be what they want to do but they are doing somethin. well thats my venting lol....kinda went off subject a little but oh well. sorry
