Default Dodge parts dept. my current rant

i order a tailgate latch with a lock & and backup camera & had it installed, the service writer said that my truck was ready to pick up, I went there & the service writer said that he had good news & bad
good news was that everything was working fine, EXCEPT, the tailgate didn't lock
he then explained that there seemed to be a part missing & that they were going to find out what was wrong & that when they found an answer, i would be contacted.
i was contacted today, the missing part was at the Parts Dept.
i went to get the part, its the piece that when you turn the key, it jambs the 2 tailgate rods so that they can't move. so now i had the pieces that i needed to lock my tailgate. i started to walk out the door with the missing piece & was told that i needed to pay for it!! SAY WHAT?? WTF?
i paid for it, $16 & walked into the service writers office & was told that i would be charged a labor fee to get it installed

Did you discuss this with the service manager? I certainly would. If he refused to complete the install properly at no charge to you, AND refund your money for the part(this is NOT a repair, it is an incomplete install, plain and simple), I would politely demand him to remove the entire assembly, return the truck to original condition, and then contact Chrysler about your poor encounter with this dealer's service department.

If it were just the parts department, I would chalk it up to a miscommunication. Since the parts counter and the service writer is involved, that's hard to believe.

Don't just roll over and take it. Make them complete their work!

yeppers BlueJet, you are correct, Carl Burger Dodge

apparently the guy in parts dept. didn't know that the locking tailgate part comes in 2 parts, first part was the handle containing the handle, the key lock, & the camera with the wiring harness, the 2nd part is the locking mechanism that connects the key lock to the rods within the tailgate

If you paid for it with a credit card(something I always do), complain to the credit card company as well. First thing they do is charge back the offender until the complaint is investigated. They will almost always side with the consumer. Once you've got your $$ back, you've upped your negotiating power. I'm not saying cheat them out of anything, just tip the scales back to you. Pay fairly for the service, but not until you are satisfied.
