My '94 5.2L is smokin when I first start it and when its at a idle for a long period of time. I'm sort of leaning againt valve stem seals. Anyone have any ideas on anything else. any help would be greatly thanked.

That is just your plenum gasket worn out. The engine is fine, no valves or seats to worry about. The plenum seal is the culprit in these engines. Your oils is escaping through the busted plenum and being burned up. You will probably notice some oil missing when you change your oil.

I agree with Ram15002nd gen . Remove your air cleaner from the top of the throttle body , with the engine off , open up the throttle plate and look down to the manifold floor . See if you see oil puddling . If so , remove the intake manifold and reseal the plate on the bottom of the manifold . Heres a link that will help ya out . http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread....=plenum+gasket

Then it becomes an internal issue. Rings, pistons, etc.

Will this gasket being wore out cause any noises to come from the engine? Tapping, knocking etc.? Also when I first change My oil it wont smoke until the oil gets some milage on it. Still may be that gasket. By the way thanks for the link, very informative description on how to fix it.

You'll get pinging from the engine due to a bad gasket. As for oil usage that can have anything to do with temps, oil viscosity, length of trip, type of driving, etc. If it's using oil I would say this is the most common problem. Measure your oil at the next change and you should see a quart or two missing.

When I changed it 2wks ago, it was about a quart and a half low, and I have no oil leaks anywhere. I'll be checkin this problem out and let Y'all know how it turns out. Thanks a bunch guys.
