Talking about oil change I have a question. In my EVIC appears a message that says "oil change due", my question is Do I really have to do the oil chagne NOW??? my truck has only 4300 km (2670 mi) it's pretty new for an oil change.

I've checked the level and is Ok, and it looks in good shape also, what do you think?

With a brand new vehicle I've always changed the oil after the first couple thousand miles then did it closer to 5,000 after that. I just use walmart brand supertech and this method has never done me wrong.

Seems like quite a few EVIC's signal for a change at ~2,500~ miles,,, mine did, so I changed it.

I plan on following EVIC for the most part. It's very easy to just 'set it and forget it'

Not real happy with the 6 months maximum time limit Dodge specifies between oil changes. I should be pretty close to that anyway, and will try to remember time intervals are seemingly just as important to Dodge as the amount of miles driven.

I do all my own maintenance, so $70.00 for "7 Dino's + a filter" sounds pretty darn steep!

lol at $70 for 7qts and a filter! you got ripped off!!
depending on where you live, you may not need 5W20!

Multi-weight oils (such as 10W-30) are a new invention made possible by adding polymers to oil. The polymers allow the oil to have different weights at different temperatures. The first number indicates the viscosity of the oil at a cold temperature, while the second number indicates the viscosity at operating temperature. This page from the Sci.Electronics.Repair FAQ offers the following very interesting description of how the polymers work:

"At cold temperatures, the polymers are coiled up and allow the oil to flow as their low numbers indicate. As the oil warms up, the polymers begin to unwind into long chains that prevent the oil from thinning as much as it normally would. The result is that at 100 degrees C, the oil has thinned only as much as the higher viscosity number indicates. Another way of looking at multi-vis oils is to think of a 20W-50 as a 20 weight oil that will not thin more than a 50 weight would when hot. "

Default Oil Change

A few weeks ago I posted a thread about paying $72.00 for an oil change. So after speaking with the service manager, it was an error on their part, they gave a $19.00 refund and 2 free oil changes on my account.

All's well that ends well. I had a service manager try to screw me on some brake work one time, but the dealership VP overheard and refunded the difference plus 3 free oil changes.

Default Way to much.........

I check my local Dodge dealers sites(I have two very close) and under the service banner they have monthly deals etc... They seem to always have a oil/filter /lube for $17.00 and it seems every couple of months they have a deal for a tire rotation for $10.00. Check out your locals site and you might find they have the same type of deals going on.

Enjoy the Ride!
