Default Am I completely knuts?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum so just sayin "hi".

So here's the situation. I'm thinkin of buying an early '80s dodge pick-up. It's ugly with a capitol "UG!" Apparently it has a 318. . . I'm supposed to look at it on Saturday if the guy can drag it out of the snow drift it's in. It has been for sale on the side of the road for about a year. My idea is to put in a 5 speed trans, dual exhaust, drop it a little, put some steel wheels on it (paint the wheels red) and drive it. My idea of a rat rod pick up. Then over time (read years) fix it up and paint it. I'm thinking lime green with a flat black hood and shaker scoop. Probably hot rod the engine first.

The catch is, I have to sell my perfectly good '91 bmw 318i so I can build the truck. Oh yea. . . I have 2 feet of snow and no garage.

So what do you all think. Be brutally honest folks.

Talk at ya later

Duane

Welcome to the forum. I had the same problem with no garage. When I had to do a valve job on my Exploder, I bought one of those screen rooms at Walmart and put the hood of the truck under it. Did a great job of keeping the oak leaves and acorns out of the engine bay, and allowed me to continue working even with light rain. However, I do live in Florida, so I usually don't have snow to worry about. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Duane, I guess I'm going to be the one to hit you with a dose of reality. But before that, welcome to forum!

You idea sounds like a cool project. You don't say if your bmw is your only daily driver or if it's a second car. But if that bmw is your only car and you have to sell it to afford fixing up a truck that's going to require more money and time to fix than a 91 bmw is worth, then all I can say is "what are you thinking?"
