Default To swap or not to swap...that is the question

I have a 99 dodge ram sport quad cab. The truck has a rebuilt auto trans, aftermarker trans cooler and new trans lines. The truck also has a 3 inch suspension lift. I have 2 questions. First, will the flywheel and torque converter from a 95 360 fit a 99 360 engine? Second, my truck needs an engine, originally it had a 5.2 in it, but have been going back and forth about putting in a 360. Do you guys recommend this swap? The truck will be mainly used for on road, and the occational offroad adventure. I will be putting 33x12.50 tires on the truck, and it has a rear gear of 3.55. I would like to be able to tow a car trailer with my trans am on it to drag racing and auto x events, so I want something that has decent power. I didn't know whether it would be better to just go with the 5.2 and put an intake on it with headers (truck already has mandrel bent dual exhaust with hooker air chamber muffler) or put in the 360? I want something that will be a good all round truck. Any help would be great.

I'd go with the 360 since you have a middle of the road gear, you're going with larger tires and plan to tow a car. I'm not sure about the flywheels interchanging.

I would go with the 360. For towing what you need is ore torque. More cubic inches brings more torque and the possiblity of moding to bring even more torque. Taller tires will actually be a bad move as far as towing goes. It in effect will change your geat ratio in the wrong direction. You should change to lower gears(higher numerically) if you want to run taller tires. Something like 4:56's.

I had the 5.2 in my 97 and pulled a boat and trailer (5200 lbs) in the mountains of WV with no problems.. I had stock 16" wheels with 285/65. I had 3.92 installed with ni ill effect to my milage form the 3.55's.

No real difference in fuel economy between the two, so there's no advantage to the smaller engine, either.

after looking the specs up, the 318 has only 15 fewer hp, but 45 less torque. Would a CAI, and a set of headers on the 318 make up this difference?
