Default Engine Block Heater

I am picking up my new Big Horn Ram today. I noticed in the window sticker that no engine block heater is listed.

1.If the heater is installed, is it normal for it to be shown on the window sticker?

2. Can a dealer installed the heater or is this only factory installed?

3. With the new engine do you really need an engine block heater? (I will be traveling to Bountiful, Utah in 2 weeks. Brrr):

It doesn't show on the window sticker, no, but the Options Report (build sheet) shows as RPO NHKS Engine Block Heater.

Ask the dealer to print out the Options Report and look for that RPO.

The dealer can install one, yes. It's not a big deal.

I would think you don't really need it. I live in Canada and it's been -28C (-18F) here all week. The truck starts just fine.

If you have it, great - if not, don't waste your money.

Hello. I have one on my 2003 ram. I have never used a block heater for it or actually anything i have ever owned. I live in Ontario, Canada and it gets pretty cold up here. Never needed it. I too say not to bother but if something you want sure. Its not a big job.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't worry about having one if you don't live in an area where it gets super cold all the time.

A dealer can install a block heater with no problem.

When I lived in Wyoming I had one on my rigs...with ambient temps down to -30 F and wind chills down to -70, it was absolutely necessary to have one.

How would you know if you had one already? Plug dangling for an extension cord?

passenger side forward under the hood, have a look around if you have one you will see a cord tucked away.

I'm guessing you have a Cummins in your truck? If so I would get the block heater cord (the element is already in the block just need the cord) and attach it yourself. Genos garage has a way better price than the dealer.
