I'm assuming most here don't watch "Top Gear" on a regular basis. On other forums I frequent, it's typically a controversial topic. The guys on that show are nearly physically incapable of taking any situation serious, their show is intended to be pure entertainment.

There is no question the HV jacket is important for those working on or near a railroad track.

On the other hand, I'm going to incorporate that video into my next Supervisor training session, and use it to show how inspectors can completely miss the big picture when performing their observations with an agenda in mind. Thanks!

Oh we dont have that many crossings or deaths on our railways but saying that 1 death is bad enough. over here if someone is seriousley injured or killed on the rail or any industry related accident then health and saftey have to step in find out why and put measures in to pratice to stop it happening again.

Over here a hi vis jacket has to be worn on any construction site, while operation any moving machinery etc even a stacker driver has to wear hi vis.

What should be common sense, but for some isn't!

I see this type of crap every day. More often than not there are folks walking on or along the tracks (guess it's better walking conditions than the grass next to the track or the road).

I'd like to add to what they didn't say..... when the lights start flashing, and the gates start to come down... you may have a little as 15 seconds before the train will be occupying the crossing..

Please tell everyone you know not to try to beat the train.... I've got enough stress in my life as it is. I don't need some idiot jumping in front of me so that they won't be 5 minutes late to get that cup of latte...

All our trains here have to have a yellow warning panel on front (law) and anyone working on or near the tracks or train / locomotive has to wear a hi vis jacket (law).
wow, sounds like the trains need to wear the high visibility gear!

yeh you look at any mainline registered locomotive or train here in uk and you will see it has to have a yellow panel on the front, high intense light and a marker red light on rear.
