Default Satelite Radio Antenna

I noticed on the roof of my truck that there is what looks like a satelite radio antenna. The truck is not equipped with a satelite-ready radio. Does anyone know if maybe all of the 2006 trucks were fitted with an antenna?

The long and short of it is that I want to hook up my satelite radio receiver and would like to use the factory antenna if possible.

It's a regular antenna if your truck was not equipped with a satellite receiver. Both antennas look the same on the outside but the satellite antenna has an extra antenna cable built in exclusively for satellite radio. You would have to purchase the upgraded antenna to be able to use it for your radio.

I'm going to have to disagree with this one. I double checked the service info and according to it, the only antenna that is roof mounted is for the satellite radio. The radio has a traditional mast and the nav antenna is dash mounted.

I have the same setup on my 08, satellite antenna on the roof near the back of the cab but no satellite ready radio as near as I can tell. Oh well, I'm pretty sure I'm the only one tall enough to see it up there anyway.

Thanks for the input. After a little digging I discovered that the BigHorn package for 2006 included satelite radio. I actually got into a bit of a pissing contest with XM on the phone about it too. I got a portable satelite receiver for Christmas and to make a long story short I've installed it in my cab and will swap service to the factory radio after my one year commitment is done on the portable device.

from personal experience you might find that you like the portable unit better than the factory....

The portable gives you a couple of lines of display, letting you know the artist, and song, and sometimes other stuff... your factory unit probably won't, unless you've got nav.....

good luck

Do you know if the antenna that comes stock on the truck can be unpluged from the radio and plugged into a portable?

Be wary of the units that rely on an FM transmission method, it becomes a pain in the ass when you travel. I had mine switched to factory after just a few weeks because of the hassle. Plus its a cleaner look IMO
