I hate strep! Definately feel for ya.. you need to not only be thinking about helping your throat feel better, but your whole self. Even just a sore throat can totally wear you out and run down your energy.. I agree with everyone, tea, lozenges, gargling... AND stay in bed and rest.

Dr.GT, what a good tip about getting out a new toothbrush! Smart.

If it is really strep, and not viral, you need antibiotics. They can swab your throat and tell in a matter of minutes. I'm not big on antibiotics unless you have an actual bacterial infection, but if you have one, you need them. It won't go away on its own.

I gargle with a teaspoon of worcestershire sauce. It tastes like crap but always helps. Good Luck and get well soon....

here is what webmd has to say

Nonprescription medications for strep throat

Nonprescription medications that relieve pain may help relieve some symptoms of strep throat, but they will not make you better any faster.
Acetaminophen will help relieve pain and reduce fever caused by strep throat. Aspirin or ibuprofen will also help. Do not give aspirin to children because it has been linked to Reye syndrome.
Anesthetic throat sprays numb the throat area to help relieve pain. Throat lozenges or drops may help relieve pain and keep the throat moist.

use at your own risk i am not a doctor this web address may help you

I did get the antibiotics. They did the swab and it did come back positive. However, they are horrible for the pain honestly.

Dude. I have had strep throat alot of times. How long have you been on the antibiotics.? Usually after a couple days with antibiotics your feeling better. If you have been taking the antibiotics for more than 3/4 days and your not feeling any better....my advice to you is go back and see the Dr. You could also have a problem with your tonsils or adnoids....Or both.

The high salt gargle is the best, but another one that works for me and every one cringes at is a onion/brown sugar mix. Cut an onion in half and set it on a plate of brown sugar, after a day, the moisture from the onion has mixed with the brown sugar. Dilute this with water and gargle then swallow. It's an african remedy we picked up while over there. The taste is worse than Buckleys, be warned.
