Default 01 1500 w/ 360 Magnum cranks when it want to

I got a 01 with a 360 (5.9) Mag. , sometimes when I turn the key, Nothing,.........wait a little while go back and it may crank, when I say it won't start the starter is not turning the engine over,.....I thought the ignition switch was going bad and replaced it, I have checked battery connection and changed the starter relay with the others in the fuse box, and it still does this, what else is left to check or replace, ? .....it's the only vehicle I have and really need it to be dependable again. Any and all help is appreciated.

when it won't start, have you tried to jump start it, using another vehicle & jumper cables or a Portable Jump Starter?

Measure the voltage on the solenoid wire at the starter when it's acting up. You should be within a volt of battery voltage. If that's good and you have battery voltage on the other wire, chack for a voltage drop on the ground side. If you have than less than about .5 drop, replace the starter.

Have you tried thumping on the starter when it won't start? If that wakes it up, bad starter.

yep, tried it , still won't start, waited about 2 hrs, it started, .......could it be the starter solenoid on the starter ?

What has me so puzzled is sometimes it does it and sometimes it don't.

Could be. Beating on it and getting it to work means the brushes on the starter motor are bad. Beating knocks some of the crap off, but a temporary fix.

Could be neutral start switch , bad starter , loose or corroded connection , starter relay etc...
