Can welding on the chassis polorize the vehicle and make the charging system inoperable

Shouldn't be a problem. There was a recall back around 2000 that required us to weld a bracket onto the front suspension and all we did was unhook the battery and everything was fine.

I've welded on a lot of vehicles (although none of the newer ones with all the computers) without problems. Just disconnect the battery at the ground terminal and be sure to place the welder's ground clamp as close to the work as possible. Make sure nothing flammable is leaking.
