Question Transmission trouble with diesel engines?

Hello all... I am a newbie to Dodge truck, looking to buy my first. I have had Chevrolet trucks for years and have become bored with their design. I have always like the looks of the Dodge trucks, but have stayed away because I have heard nothing but bad things about transmissions.

I am looking at either 2500 or 3500 diesel, year range 2003 - 2006

So here are my questions.
For all you guys with the diesels, what kind of transmission troubles have you had?
espically anyone who has the aftermarket power programer, or aftermarket intakes and intercoolers.

what things do I need to look for when I am out looking for my new truck? common failures?

What power programer has the best reputation for Dodge diesels?

What is a DPF delete?

Thank you for your help,
-Jeff

A simple google search would help alot. Go to the newbie section and let everyone know your here. As far as I know, they are pretty solid unless you get around 1000lbs of tourque. Then a little beefing up is needed.

a DPF delete is a diesel particulate filter delete. replace with a straight pipe

Welcome Mechanixman. I have an 08' 2500 6.7l with a Bully Dog and nothing more. I do not run my programmer/tuner on Extreme because there are other recommended components that I haven't obtained yet. I set it on performance and I do not romp it.
I have only had the tuner about a couple of weeks.
I hope this helped at least a little.

The transmission problems you're referring to are the older with 46/47RE transmissions which were last used in '03 or '04. The 48RE used behind the 5.9 is a much more durable unit. Personally, my favorite is the '06.
