I had 2 railers I towed with my 05 Ram 4.7. An open 16ft car trailer with my van I used in stereo competitions and a 8.5x28ft enclosed car hauler with my show truck in it. Towing your jeep will not be a problem.

A QC is 'relatively' heavy on the rear axle. (A SC Long Bed is not,,,)

I'd say throw what gear you have in the bed of your truck, match your hitch heights, and take it easy.

If it's only a 3 hr round trip, there is no need for speed!!!!!

I've towed lots of vehicle on a trailer. I used to pick up vehicle that were repoed far from the financer and bring them back. I never had any problems with handleing at all. I doubt that you would flat towing. Because you will have less weight And the front wheels of the jeep will be closer to your rear towing unit than if it were on a trailer. The one down side to flat towing is if you gt into a position where you need to back up. Always think and look ahead. So you can avoid a situation where you need to back up.

I flat towed my XJ yesterday. Had no problems at all. You could feel it tug/push at start/stop, or on a hill, but I expected that. I put my XJ's 31" spare, my tools, and the cooler (maybe 150-200lbs) in the bed over the rear axle to help add a little weight. The drive in the morning was in the rain, so I kept my speed to around 50-55mph. The return trip was clear, so I ran around 60-65 (even hit 70 at one point) and still had no problems. According to the truck, I averaged 13.3 mpg.

Thanks everyone for the input!! Still saving for a trailer, but for now this worked great.

I am doing a similar thing but I will be flat towing my 95 dodge ram 1500 single cab short bed 4x4. I will be using my 04 Ram QC 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 does anyone see why this wouldnt work? Im also going from southern california to alaska. It will be a long haul but not in a rush. Is there anything else I will need to do other than drop the driveshafts on the truck?
