Default why does my truck hate 60km/h ?

So I have a 2001 ram 2500 with the cummins and I'm new to diesels and I have no idea if this is normal or not but when I'm trying to just cruise along doing 60 (40mph) it seems to keep jumping back and forth from what I would assume would be 3rd and 4th gear if your just under 60 and push on the pedel to accelerate it jumps into 4th and seems like it bogs down if your just over 60 it never seems like it can choose what gear it wants and then once again when you push on the pedal it drops to 4th which doesn't let the rpms run higher than 1300 until you get going faster I've tried resetting the tps sensor I'm hoping someone will be able to let me know if this is normal or not or what might be wrong thanks in advance guys

On those trucks, a bad ground or electrical noise can cause the trans to hunt for gears. Check all your grounds, your alternator fuse, and sometimes the alternator can produce interference.

So I checked most of the grounds and the fuses under the hood and they all looked pretty good...what are the odds that maybe its my radio causing interferance its an after market deck and I've noticed when I'm driving around that it seems to go up and down in sounds sometimes its quiet and then other times its loud without me touching the volume...could this be the sort of interferance your talking about?

The radio itself shouldn't cause problems, but whatever is causing your transmission issues could also be causing your radio to screw up.

Absolutely fascinating.

Been driving my truck for a couple of months and this started to happen in a more definite way lately. Going up a hill today around 60 km/h (no load) the transmission was shifting back and forth, 5 or 6 times the RPM hand just jumped there.

But also had episodes where the RPM was 2200 at 60 km/h on flat ground when it should have been 1200. Beats me.

Hope I'm not sitting on a catastrophe.
