Default Hard Starting after overnight Parking

This truck is having a real hard time starting after being parked for longer periods of time (such as overnight).

It'll turn over and want to start but really rough like as if the timing is way out, and when it does start, if you're not quick with giving it some throttle it acts like it wants to flood out. If you miss it and it quits, it takes a boost to get it running.

Truck has about 300k on it.

Once you've let it run 10 or 15 mins, it runs awesome and it won't do it again all day unless it sits again.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Willy

I am assuming it is a diesel truck? What is the average temperature right now where you are?

Im assuming it is a Diesel? If so, you have a glow plug or glow plug relay issue....

Sorry about my bad Forum edicate.. I know better....

Anyways, this truck belongs to a friend, he's not very mechanical so asked me to see if I could find our some information for him.

The Truck is a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 with the Sport Package. 5.9L Gas.

Like I said previous, it has about 300K KM's on it and runs like a top once it has run for about 5 or 10 mins.

To get it to start is the trick. When it turns over and tries to start it’s acting like the timing is too far advanced.

If you’re careful and give it some throttle as it fires it’ll go, but if not, it’ll stop dead. If you give it too much throttle while it’s trying to get going it quits. I guess it floods itself out. There has been times where it has had to be boosted in order to get it to start.

Once it’s started it runs a little rough at first but once it warms up for a minute or two it runs like perfect. If you give it too much throttle while it's running rough it gets worse. But after it's even just a little warm.... No troubles at all.

We can't be sure if it's just a cold weather issue because it's a company vehicle (Supervisor's truck). So it has been normally driven - but by someone else who has just returned it since it's now needed to plow with.

Like I said at the top: 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 Sport - 5.9 Gas

Thanks in advance!

Willy
