Default 1500, 2500, 3500 differences.

I was looking at a 2500 the other day and trying to see the differences.

Is it just mechanical (suspension, steering, engine etc)?
or do the bigger load truck have different body and chassis?

There's a crapload of differences.
The 2500 and 3500 have a different frame and suspension to handle more weight, heavier duty axles, wheel bearings, springs, steering, etc. the '09 HD trucks have the same body as the '02-'08 1500s, and the 2010 Chassis Cabs do to. The 2010 HDs have a new body based on the '09 1500, as will the 2011 CC. The interior of the 2010 HDs is the same as the '09 1500. 2500s come with either a Hemi or Cummins Diesel, and the 3500s come with the Cummins only. The 3500 is available with single or dual rear wheels.

The higher the number the more weight capacity it can take. You will have a beefier suspension going from 1500-2500. Basically everything that itdan has said above. He coverd the majority of it

The 1500s are also only availiable with a gas engine, the 2500 and 3500s can get the 5.7L cummins. The suspensions are beefier, my dad had to put almost 1000lbs in the back to keep traction of his 3500 as opposed to the 300lbs it took in my 1500.

Actually Scat I believe in years 03 thru 05 the 2500 series has a pay load and tow limits greater than the 3500 dual wheel. The 2500 has a gvw 1000 lbs higher than the 3500... the tow weight is also 20,000 lbs. for the diesel HD 2500 03 thru 05 with the 4.10 rear and only 19,000 for the same equip. 3500 ..Both with cummins .Check it out @ Gino's garage where the charts are easy to follow .
