Default 09 stock with aftermarket 20's OR tire help

Hi everyone! Newb here. I have a 09 SLT Ram 1500 4x4 crew cab and im looking to buy some
KMC XD Spy 20x8.5 5x 139.7 offset=18mm rims or

Helo HE835 20x9 with same specs.

Anyways its a stock height truck and i have read that the leveling kits are a big no no due to the ride in 4x4. So i guess ill just deal with stock for awhile since i have plenty other projects to throw money at this momemnt. Im wondering what is the max height tire i can go without issues? i read the stock 20 size and im pretty sure you can go bigger just dunno how much bigger O/R tire wise. I havent decided on a specific tire yet but looking into BFG, Nitto, Cooper, and Some others. I tried searching for these questions but just got leveling sizes Thanks!

Watch out for the Cooper Discoverer STT tires...they don't seem to balance well.

What is the stock tire size you have now? Without a leveling kit, 33's will be a stretch I think but I'm not sure.

I have a leveling kit on my 2007 and don't have any problems except having to replace the stock shocks for some that were a bit longer to handle the 3" kit.

they are the stock base model 17's but 20's would be 275/60/20 which is like a 32.9 tire. I have looked at 295/55/20 its a 32.9 and 12.2 width then 285/55/20 its 31 and 11.69 width also thought about 33x12.50. i think i like the KMC better too! Thanks for the info on the Coopers. I would love to get a 3 inch leveling kit just read up on bad problems with the 09s

dude. i got 2004 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with the 2 1/2 leveling kit and it doesnt affect the ride at all. if i was you, i would go with the leveling kit and with my leveling kit, it can fit 35's. i dont know about the 09's, but it shouldnt be much of a difference. but in my opinion, the leveling kit doesnt affecct ride quality at all. and like the second rims you had. i am lookin to get bigger wheels and tires as well. hope i helped

i did a search on leveling kits on here and few people have complained about the leveling kits on the 09s. A feel like a oval tire when on 4x4 and something abouts the cv axles having problems too. Just not worth it to me. Now a lift kit sometime will be coming in the future.

Can't say I've heard anyone with issues with a 2" level kit, but 2.5" is the highest I'd go with just a leveling kit, so that may be the issue, going with a 3". My buddy with an '09 with a 3" lift and a 2.5" level has no issues in 4x4.
