Default Smelling antifreeze coming through the vents

Ive noticed here lately that i smell what seems to be antifreeze coming through the vents inside the truck.. it happens more whenever i get on it. Not sure what could be causing the smell and I dont think its a normal thing, but i could be wrong.

Definitely not normal so I suspect a leak or a heater core giving up.

Any steam out of the vents, or wet carpet? Are you losing coolant?

No, I dont have any steam coming out of the vents, that ive seen, and Im not losing coolant. The reservoir is probably a little under max level and I havent put any coolant in it since i bought it from my dad a year ago.. my carpet does get wet on the passenger side. And i figured the heater core but my dad checked it a while back and he said he couldnt find any cracks, leak traces, or anything. Tomorrow Im going to check the heater core myself. If its leaking then there should be white water mark traces left, right? Thanks for the input. Let me know if yall come up with any other things it could be.

sounds like a heater core. i had a chevy monza that had the same symptoms. you could try bypassing it and see if it stops smelling.

It's a bad heater core . Nothing uncommon for this generation ram . Make sure you change out your coolant also . I firmly believe the coolant that was used from the factory wasn't of the best quality . I had to do mine at 50,000 miles . My coolant was still a nice pretty green color . I performed a electrical test on the coolant and it showed the coolant as probably being the reason for the core failure . After the new core was installed , I did a coolant system service while I was in there then performed that test again and was amazed at the results . Since then no more problems with core failure . Even the replacement core came with directions on how to test the coolant . So just don't assume that with the coolant being it's factory color that it's ok .

Thanks for the input.. Yeah Im probably gona go ahead and change out the heater core and flush the system then throw some fresh coolant in. The coolant got changed about 6 months before i got the truck because the water pump had went out.. but i am gona go ahead and get a new one just to be on the safe side.
