Default Kind of Urgent, any input would be appreciated

Hello everyone. I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 TRX4 and am experiencing a problem. When I turn on the heater, set to defrost on the front windshield, there is an extremely loud, deep humming coming from under my hood that was not there this morning. I can feel vibrations inside from the drivers seat. I was hoping for some ideas on what was going on, why it began randomly happening, and some repair thoughts. The only reason it is urgent is I am supposed to be doing a good bit of driving tomorrow for work, and I don't want to be putting strain or breaking something even more, or risking my own safety. Any input is much appreciated. Thank you

ps-engine is a 5.7 hemi

Open the hood, make sure your defroster is on, watch and check the A/C compressor pulley/clutch. When the HVAC system cycles, it will spin the A/C compressor pulley/clutch. If that has failed, it won't turn and it will vibrate and make quite a bit of noise.

Assuming I am looking at the right part, which there is a very good chance I am not, facing the engine compartment, the small fan to the right of the radiator is spinning. Am I completely off? Please forgive my ignorance, as I am very inexperienced with this vehicle. Thanks a lot for the quick response.

Face the front of your truck Take a look at your fan/accessory drive belt. You'll see a long cylinder with aluminum hard lines with crimped rubber ends and fittings going into the body of the cylinder. There's a pulley on the end of it. Make sure all pulleys are turning. When the compressor cycles, you'll see it turn if it's OK.

I assume you have a V8? If so, it's on the left side of the engine as you are facing it.

i do have a v8. I am heading out to check it. Any other thoughts in case that isn't it? It seems like to sound is coming from the fan to the right of the engine, in the front right corner of the compartment, behind the headlight. Thanks a lot for your help.

Everything is turning. All the pulleys, the AC compressor, the works. I can definitely tell that the fan I described above, the one in the front right behind the headlight, facing compartment, is where the deep humming/whirring is coming from. The heater is still working inside, still pushing out hot air. Any more thoughts? Thanks a lot for the help.

Then I suspect the aux cooling fan bearings are giving up. Either that or the fan is loose and smacking the backside of that cooling unit!

Is that something that I could tighten myself? Maybe a required torque spec? Wanted to deal with it as much as I can. Thanks a lot for the help Maddog. I really appreciate you being patient with me.

Turn off the truck. Check the mounting bolts on the back of the fan mounting bracket first. Make sure they are tight.

Then, see if the fan blade wobbles. If it does, I suspect the fan motor is giving up. You can get a new fan assy and install it. It's plug and play. Disconnect/dismount the old one, mount and plug in the new one.
